Day trading is not easy. It is certainly not a hobby. In Day Trading, you attempt to capitalize on intraday movements with the markets often trading on momentum and news. Day traders are also known as Kings of Stress. Sometimes when the positions warrants holding for a longer period, day trading can become swing trading!

Day trading is ideal for those who are able to handle erratic market movements while actually also having time to monitor the positions throughout the day. Full HDTV Information

A popular topic in televisions nowadays is full HDTV (full high definition television). This is due to the full changeover of digital television (DTV) signal on June 12, 2009. With this transition complete, everyone has access to HDTV signal. However, not everyone has HD display because in order to get it, you must have an HDTV display television.

When talking about HDTV, the quality of the picture (or high resolution) is the main point. Anyone who chose to purchase or obtain an HD converter box still has an analogue picture on a CRT screen. The resolution of an NTSC-analogue TV described as 480i. The "i" in the description refers to the word "interlaced". The reason why is because the CRT tube in the analogue television only 240 horizontal lines available, but the television camera has 480 lines. Therefore, in order to present the look of a more vertical resolution, the television signal is interlaced. If you consider the aspect ratio of 4:3, using basic mathematics, you can see why the analogue TV resolution can be depicted as 640 x 480i.

HDTV and full HDTV are different from analogue TV due to the resolution of each. The standard HDTV has a resolution of 720i or 720p while a full HDTV has a resolution of 1080i or 1080p. The "p" instead of the "i" stands for progressive scanning. This means that the vertical scans are done simultaneously. Using a 16:9 aspect ratio, the standard HDTV is has 1520 x 720 pixels and the full HDTV has 1920 x 1080 pixels.

It seems that the full HDTV (1080p) would be the most desirable product for optimum resolution and viewing pleasure. However, on televisions smaller than 42 inches in size, the difference in the standard HDTV versus the full HDTV isn't visible. For this reason, full HDTV isn't available on smaller TVs. Only standard HDTV (720i or 720p) is available. Hence, a 42 inch screen television or larger is required if you wish to get the benefit of full HDTV.

Three choices of screen technologies are available for full HDTV. These are rear projection HDTV, full HD plasma TV and full HD LCD TV. Rear projection HDTVs are still available but this technology appears on the decline with many manufactures dropping out of the market. Therefore, one is left with full HD plasma TV and full HD LCD TV to choose between. Since a resolution of 1080p is assumed, other factors affecting image quality to consider are response time and refresh rate, contrast ratio and color reproduction.

Full HDTV plasma displays are bright, have a wide color range, and can be produced in fairly large sizes, up to 58 inches is commercially available. Because the display panel is only about 6 cm (2.5 inches) thick, the overall thickness is about 4 to 6 inches. Contrast ratios are as high as 50K to 100K are claimed but, in reality, the highest available in stores is 30K with response times at 0.001 milliseconds and refresh frequencies of 600 Hz. Fast response times make plasma TV's ideal for fast motion video (films or sports viewing). Plasma screens also are said to have better color reproduction than LCDs and to have a wider viewing angle.

However, the power requirements for a plasma TV can be as high as 500 watts. Also, plasma televisions are heavier than LCDs; however, plasma screens can be mounted on the wall.

Full HDTV LCD displays have the same resolution as plasma full HDTV displays, but the LCD displays have a slower response time (2 milliseconds). This could result in ghosting during fast moving images. The refresh frequency of an LCD display screen is 240 Hz, but the contrast ratio has been improved so that it's the same as the plasma screen (30K). Though there are some differences in response time and refresh frequencies, LCD TVs are less expensive than plasmas.

Other than resolution, the other features of the two full HDTV options are more up to interpretation and the desire of the consumer. Ultimately, full HDTV is the best choice, taking into consideration the extra cost. However, be careful to make sure that if you're looking into an entire home theatre that your full HDTV is compatible with the system.

Hockey was once one of the four major American sports. The big four were the National Football League, Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League. But yet, even as some in those group dominate the others (the NFL dominates all sports in terms of popularity), the NHL has not been able to really keep up with the others.

In fact, hockey is not truly considered to be in that big four grouping any longer. Of course, a more accurate description of the sports climate might show that NASCAR and MMA have joined the NFL, NBA and MLB in that top tier. Hockey however is on the outside looking in, no longer enjoying the popularity it once did.

How did this happen to the NHL? Was it the entire season that was lost to the lockout that did this? No, that wasn't the reason, that lost year to the lockout was actually a symptom of the problem itself. The lockout was held because salaries were getting out of control and many franchises, outside of the most popular ones such as the New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings, simply could not afford to keep paying as much to their players as they were.

They weren't making enough revenue to pull it off. Revenue is brought in for sports teams through several areas, the most important of which are television rights and ticket sales. As the popularity of the sport waned, these sources of income did as well. Therefore the lockout was a result of the problem, not the cause of the problem.

The lockout however certainly didn't help the situation. When hockey returned the next season they made a deal with the network known as OLN - now Versus - to broadcast their weekly national games. However that cable station reaches only a small fraction of the homes that the major networks reach. This means that hockey simply isn't viewable by a great deal of the population, leaving it in a spot where it can hardly increase its popularity.

There is also the problem that many fans think that hockey is a sport which doesn't lend itself well to the medium of television. Fans prefer to watch hockey games in person; and NHL games are often sold out. However, hockey fans think that some of the speed and the finesse of the sport are lacking in televised games. Sadly, this has led to hockey being harder and harder to watch at all and there are a lot of people who may never know just what they're missing.

While it has slipped from the top four and there are some problems which need to be ironed out to truly convey all of the action and excitement of NHL hockey on TV, if the league can find a new broadcast carrier with a larger market share, it may still be able to return to its former status as one of the most important American sports. The NHL may be down, but it's too early to count it out just yet.

The Mapes Hotel: Reno's Lost Art Deco Jewel

The Mapes Hotel in Reno, Nevada met its demise on Superbowl Sunday of 2000 when 75 pounds of explosives packed inside the structure's support columns brought it to the ground. The controlled demolition came despite years of effort by a number of groups within the community to preserve the building with lawsuits, redevelopment proposals, and grass roots lobbying efforts. The National Turst for Historic Preservation even took up the cause, challenging the destruction in a lawsuit that eventually reached the Nevada Supreme Court.

While the logic and necessity of demolishing the Mapes is very questionable, one thing that is certain is that the hotel was an important part of Northern Nevada history. The opening of the Mapes in 1947 ushered in a new era in casino gambling, and changed the economy and way of life in Nevada forever. The Mapes was actually the first property in the country to combine a hotel, casino and live entertainment under the same roof. It also became the hotel of choice for celebrities staying in Northern Nevada. Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe stayed at The Mapes during the filming of 'The Misfits'. Joseph McCarthy, America's famed anti-Communist crusader, admitted to a reporter over cocktails in the Mapes Lounge that he really didn't have a list of Communists in the US despite his frequent and vitriolic insistence to the contrary.

In the 50s and 60s it became, along with Lake Tahoes Cal-Neva Lodge the place to be seen in Northern Nevada. The top floor, window-walled Sky Room showcased performances by the legends: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Jackie Gleason, Louis Prima, Mae West, Milton Berle, Sammy Davis, Jr., and the Marx Brothers among others. Subsequent years were not kind to downtown Reno but the Mapes continued to do well during the 60's and 70's. The hotel finally closed in 1982, due more to financial difficulties experienced by the Mapes family caused by one of their other Northern Nevada gaming properties than anything else.

Reno has yet to experience the sort of growth that has been seen in Southern Nevada, and for that reason the destruction of the Mapes is more open to debate than the hotel demolitions to the south. Even the demolition of The Sands"perhaps the most historically significant casino in the state"is hard to argue against given the inability of such a small property to compete in the current Las Vegas marketplace and in light of the value of the mid-strip real estate.

This is not the case in Reno, where land and buildings for development in virtually every casino area are abundant. The city argued that the land on which the Mapes stood was necessary for their redevelopment efforts--a somewhat absurd position given the realities of downtown Reno and the lack of any real development on the property since the demolition. Despite receiving a number of viable concepts for the Mapes Building, the City Redevelopment Authority rejected all of them and the Mapes was destined for demolition.

The behavior of the City Redevelopment Authority throughout the process has come into question. Overlooking the Truckee River, the hotel was perfectly placed between the downtown casino area and the riverfront district. In 1996, the city purchased the htoel and began accepting proposals for redevelopment. Despite receiving a number of proposals that made sense both in terms of their financial workability and positive impact on the downtown area, the City Redevelopment Authority nixed all of them and insisted that the hotel be razed.

Following the 2000 demolition, the lot remained vacant for over a year until a temporary ice skating rink was hastily constructed the following winter. The property has been improved and the rink is now permanent which, while not in itself a bad use for the land, further calls into question the efficacy of demolishing the structure. It would appear that the city had no clue what to do with the land, but for whatever reason wanted the building brought down. This has led to all sorts of conspiracy theories, from the City Development Agency having financial incentive to raze the hotel to rumors that the building was haunted and was destroyed to keep the Reno area from being overrun with paranormal activity. Whatever the reason for the decision, the city of Reno has lost a beautiful art deco treasure that played a significant part in the economic growth of the state.

There are 100s of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and HOLDRS covering key industry benchmarks such as the various Standard & Poor (S&P) Indexes, Russell Indexes or the Dow Jones Products. There are other ETFs that cover the other less well known narrow based sectors.

For example, SPY tracks the Standard & Poors S&P 500 Composite Index. It is the largest of the ETFs. You should know the major indexes as an investor that are either key benchmarks or have ETFs tied to them.

Standard & Poor: Standard & Poor (S&P) is the financial services segment of the McGraw Hill companies and has been providing independent and objective financial information, analysis and research for nearly 140 years.

It is also the provider of equity indexes. Investors around the globe use S&P Indexes for investment performance measurement. These indexes are also used as the basis for wide variety of financial instruments such as Index Funds, Futures, Options and ETFs.

S&P 500 Composite is one of the most popular indexes in the global financial markets. It is also used as a key benchmark for money manager performance. Hundreds of companies around the world have licenses with the Standards & Poors for their index products. The influence and name recognition of S&P 500 is unparalleled.

The S&P 500 is a capitalization weighted index that tracks the performance of 500 large capitalization issues and each year thousands of money managers have the single minded goal of outperforming the S&P 500. S&P 500 represents more than 75% of the capitalization of the entire US Stock Market.

Over the years, the complexion of S&P 500 has changed. 30 years back most of the stocks were from the Industrial Sector. By 1970s, six of the top companies were from the Oil Sector. In 2000s, technology composed about one third of the capitalization of the index. The stocks in the S&P 500 are determined by a nine member committee in accordance with the general guidelines.

The other Standard & Poors indexes are the S&P Midcap 400 Index. It measures the performance of the midsize companies of the US economy. It is based on 400 chosen domestic stocks and is also capitalization based.

The S&P SmallCap 600 Index consists of 600 domestic stocks. These stocks are chosen for market size and liquidity. S&P SmallCap 600 is also capitalization weighted index and is of interest to institutional and retail investors. There are also sub-indexes based on these S&P Indexes.

NASDAQ: You will often hear the Nasdaq market being up or down on a given day in the media. NASDAQ Composite Index contains more than 4500+ companies representing a market capitalization of trillions of dollars.

There is another Nasdaq Index called the Nasdaq-100. NASDAQ-100 is composed of the top 100 nonfinancial companies in the Nasdaq Stock Market like Microsoft etc. It is a modified capitalization weighted index. The QQQ is based on the Nasdaq-100 Index.

Hockey's Golden Jet: Bobby Hull

'The Golden Jet' Bobby Hull was the most feared goal scorer of the 1960's and 1970's and arguably the greatest left wing to ever play professional hockey. Along with teammate Stan Mikita, Hull made the Chicago Blackhawks one of the NHLs true offensive powerhouses. He and Mikita were the first NHL players to use curved stick blades, which made his already wicked slapshot even more difficult to stop. This was a very significant development in pro hockey, and now its rare to find a player that plays with the flat stick blade that was once commonplace before Hull and Mikita's revolutionary modification.

Born in rural Belleville, Ontario Hull rose quickly through the ranks of junior hockey and by the time he was 18 had joined the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks. He was a very effective rookie, and by his third year in the league was leading the NHL in scoring. In 1961, he played an important role in the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup championship victory.

Hull made history in 1966 by becoming the first player to score more than 50 goals in a season. His 51st goal surpassed Montreal Canadiens' legends Bernie Boom Boom Geoffrion and Maurice Rocket Richard and earned him a 7 minute standing ovation from the home crowd at Chicago Stadium.

In 1972, Hull signed a then unprecedented deal to jump to the upstart World Hockey Association (WHA). His compensation included a $1 million US signing bonus which all of the league's owners contributed to realizing the significance of landing Hull in terms of publicity and credibility.

Hull would quickly resume his offensive onslaught in the upstart league for his new team, the Winnipeg Jets. He would lead the Jets to two league championship AVCO Cup victories and in 1977 set a new professional hockey record with 77 goals in a season.

Hull suffered from knee trouble throughout his career, and it eventually forced his retirement from hockey in 1979. He would play in a few games for the Whalers before calling it a career. With the exception of an abortive comeback attempt with the New York Rangers in 1981 that was the end of his professional hockey career.

Modern fans may be more familiar with Hulls third son, Brett Hull, who earned NHL superstar status in his own right. Like his dad, Hull was a prolific goal scorer with a scary slapshot and will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this year.

Hull is still in good health and splits his time between Canada and Chicago, IL. He currently serves as a PR ambassador for the Blackhawks organization. He is expected to formally induct his son into the Hall of Fame at the ceremonies later this summer.

Using Commodity Prices in Currency Trading

Commodities, namely gold and oil, have a strong and substantial correlation with forex markets. By understanding this relationship between gold, oil and currency pairs, you as a forex trader can gauge risk, forecast price changes as well as understand exposure.

Gold and oil prices essentially tend to move based on almost similar fundamental forces that affect a few currency pairs. Four major currencies, the New Zealand Dollar, the Australian Dollar, the Canadian Dollar and the Swiss Franc are considered to be commodity currencies.

The NZD, CAD, AUD, and CHF all have strong connection with gold prices. Natural gold reserves and currency laws in these countries result in almost mirror like movements. The CAD also tends to move with the oil prices.

However, the correlation between CAD and oil prices is not that strong. Each one of these currencies has a correlation with gold and oil and the fundamental factors behind doing so.

Knowledge of the fundamental reasons behind these correlated movements between gold, oil and these currencies and their direction and strength could be a good method to discover trends in both the markets. There is a strong correlation between gold prices and US Dollar too.

During unstable geopolitical times as well as when global recessionary fears become strong like that presently, investors tend to run away from US Dollar and instead turn to gold as a safe haven for their investments and hoard their wealth.

Therefore, as Dollar loses value, gold prices tend to rise as wary investors become afraid of losing their wealth. As US is going to print more and more dollars to finance its budget deficits, USD will depreciate and gold will appreciate. Many countries are trying to hoard gold keeping in view this anticipated depreciation of dollar. AUD/USD, NZD/USD and USD/CHF are currency pairs that tend to mirror gold movements.

Oil prices normally tend to have a huge impact on the global economy. Remember, the early part of 2008 when oil and commodity prices jumped skyward making the global economy jittery. Oil prices have come down but it is being forecasted that it will rise again when the global economy comes out of recession and the demand for oil rises again. USD/CAD currency pair tends to show an oil relationship. The major reason for this relationship is the heavy dependence of foreign oil in both US and Canada.

Generally speaking, commodity prices are a leading indicator of currency prices. As such, commodity block traders monitor gold and oil prices to forecast movements in currency pairs. This knowledge can help forex traders to diversity their risk exposure using different products. The combination of gold and forex trading can be very profitable.

Placing Stop Loss Order

You should understand how to select stop orders to limit your potential losses and how to let profits ride. Managing risk and using systems that helps evaluate price changes is critical for a trader if he/she is to maintain a degree of profitability over time.

Managing risk should be your number one job. The descriptions of the types of stops and the pros and cons of each should help you make the right decisions for the different market conditions. Capturing as much profit as possible from winning trades should be your utmost goal.

You should know the various types of stop loss orders. You should also know where and when to place these stops. Predetermined stop loss orders help you conquer your emotions. Stops should be part of the trading system and included in your trading rules.

Set a stop objective and weigh the risk/reward ratio before entering each trade. When volatility is low, stop orders can be placed close to the entry level. However, when the volatility is high, stop orders should be placed further from the entry level.

When entering a trade make sure you know where and why to put the stop order. Initially you will form an opinion based on your gut feelings that is substantiated by a trade signal.

News releases create price spikes that may make an adverse move against your position. However, you will undoubtedly get caught in the news driven price shock events. It makes the markets highly unpredictable in the short run.

Stop orders can also be placed to enter positions. Stop orders that you place online in case the market trades at a certain price. The order will be triggered when that price level is reached and become a market order to be filled in by the next best price available. Stop orders are placed to protect against losses.

Buy stops are placed above the current market price and sell stops are placed below the current market price. Protective stops are used to offset a position and to protect against losses and against accrued profits.

You can set a daily dollar amount on the loss limit. Suppose you want to risk only $250 per $100,000 standard lot position. Stops can be placed on a dollar amount per position. Your stop loss should be placed 25 pips from your entry point.

You can also use a certain percent of your overall account size as your stop loss. Traders use 2-5% of the overall account size as their stop loss. If your trading account size is $10,000, this comes out to be $200-$500.

Swing traders can use the automatic trailing stop. This makes the decision making process fully automated. Many traders tend to turn winners into losers as they get in the let it ride mindset. The trailing stop reduces the chance to let trades ride.

Tips To Win At Blackjack

Want to increase your odds of winning in blackjack, whether you're playing at a casino or from the comfort of your home? Here are a few simple rules collected from the advice given by online players. Paying attention to just a few things will help you reduce the house's edge and improve your chances of going away with a little bit of money. No gambling tip will ever be a sure thing, but if you know what you're doing, there are some pitfalls you can avoid.

If you have a nine or lower, it's time to hit. A ten or eleven means you should double down, as long as your cards add up to more than the upcard the dealer is showing. If that's not the case, hit. If you have twelve through sixteen, hit if the dealer's card is seven or higher. Otherwise, just stand. Stand on seventeen or higher, too. These are most likely to get you the best results in ordinary blackjack.

If you're playing with soft hands, things get a little different. What's a soft hand? When you can use an ace as an eleven instead of a one, that's what's going on. A soft sixteen, for instance, would be an ace and a six. If you have numbers between thirteen and eighteen in this playing style, double down if the dealer has five or six as an upcard. Seventeen or lower should be a hit, and eighteen should be a hit if the dealer's card is six or lower. If the dealer has seven or more, stand. Stand when your cards add up to seventeen or higher as well. When it comes to pairs, there are a few rules as well. Never split tens, fours, or fives, but always split aces and eights, as well as all other pairs if the dealer has an upcard of six or less.

That's just some basic blackjack strategy. However, there are a few other things to remember, too. Check out players and tables to find a fun, fast paced playing environment that offers minimal interruption and interference. If you're playing in person, avoid drunk players. If you're online or at a casino, slow players are also an issue.

Don't take insurance unless you're an experienced card counter, and manage your bankroll carefully to get the most fun for the amount of money you have. Don't sit down at any table where the bet size is more than a twentieth of your bankroll. Your risk is lessened and you'll keep your money longer. This applies to lots of other games, too. Treat everyone with courtesy and respect, including the dealer, and make sure to have fun!
