Obviously, your first step to success is to be a good photographer. People think this is simplistic advice but it is not. Like anything, if you want to succeed and be the best you are going to have to work for it. You will need to practice your craft and enhance your skill by working to be better at it. This has helped me do well as a photographer.
The next thing you should be good and capable at is with customer service. We all know that being a good photographer is an important aspect of the business, but being good with your customers is very important as well. You have to realize that being in photography is also like being in a people business. You have to be able to provide and please your client by doing what they want. This has worked extremely well in my wedding photographer service. Because no client is more critical than a wedding couple on their wedding day.
Lastly, you have to be able to know the exact time when a great shot is coming up. This is more of an intuitive skill, but being able to determine when exactly it comes up will provide you with great shots. To be able to develop this skill you have to understand and know what is currently happening at your photo shoot.
Also knowing when big moments are going to happen. This is very important in my event photography service. By being able to anticipate moments has helped me capture great shots.
