Are Saltwater Reels The Reel Deal?

By Ronald Hampton

Saltwater reels are exactly what the deep sea fisherman needs in order to catch that big game fish. How else will he catch that mighty Marlin that has been evading him for more years than he cares to remember?

There are various types of saltwater reels and the one that is purchased is dependent upon the needs that each specific fisherman has. The type of reel purchased also depends upon the type of fish that are going to be caught. For example, if fishing for tuna, the reel won't need to be as hardy as if fishing for marlin.

The saltwater spinning reel is the most commonly purchased one on the market and is really suited towards catch and release type of fishing. Most saltwater fishermen have at least two or three of these in their collection and they are great for light fish that do not require too much effort. If you are keen to try surf or deep sea fishing, it is advised that you go for something heavier.

Other types of reels are the conventional reels, lever drag reels, bait casting and big game fishing reels. The type of fishing you do will determine the type of reel you use. If one looks at diagrams of these reels, they do all look alike but there are the slightest differences on all of them. For example, the lever drag conventional reel is smaller then the lever drag big game reel. The reel itself is bigger on the lever drag big game reel because of the weight, size and strength of the type of fish that will be caught. Therefore the bigger the fish, the bigger the reel.

While all of these saltwater reels differ slightly, they all serve one main purpose and that is to make sure that the biggest fish is caught at the end of that line.

Even though some people do catch the fish and then release it once it has been weighed, the length and weight of the fish will be discussed around the fire with the beers after the long day of fishing is over.

If you want to make sure that you get the best saltwater reels for your needs then don't delay in seeking the help of fishing professional. They will give you the best advice and can recommend a good product.
